Me in “centro storico” (historic downtown) Umbertide.

If you love Italy, you’re in the right place! And should we meet, we’d be instant friends with so much to talk about. Your favorite restaurant, my favorite trattoria. The best place to stay. What festivals you’ve loved. Where I buy the best  schiacciata (focaccia with onions). If you speak Italian, well, we might never stop chatting.

I started this blog to share some of my photos, favorite recipes, great places to visit in Umbria, and to provide travel tips specifically about Italy. I also wanted to share some stories about my life in Umbria, where I lived for about 1-1/2 years while researching my book, The Dog Who Ate the Truffle: A Memoir of Stories and Recipes from Umbria.

It’s fun to blog about all of that, but it is much more exciting to share things with you in person.  That’s why starting this September, I am offering Cook with Class culinary tours to Umbria. The first tour is booked, but two more are planned. April 2014 and September 2014. For next year’s tours, I hooked up with Linda Kirsch–so the tours should be double fun!

Fava beans are in season now!

Read the Fava Bean Post. Since I started a small food company, I haven’t had time to blog. Now I hope to have a chance to publish more often.
